Los Angeles ZipCar – Zipping From Sight to Sight
With our last day of the #GreatCoastRoadTrip our itinerary was wide open. With so many world famous sights to be seen in such little time we decided to make the most of our fun ride and headed out for a jam-packed tour using our Los Angeles ZipCar.
Griffith Park with Los Angeles ZipCar
Just north of LA sandwiched between Hollywood and Burbank lies Griffith Park. This massive recreation area is home to the Greek theater, the LA Zoo, the Hollywood sign, and the Griffith Observatory – our first stop on our Los Angeles ZipCar. The high hills also offer sweeping views of the city and there are excellent hiking trails, ball diamonds, golf courses, and other recreational facilities which makes it a favorite spot for LA area residents to play. The Griffith Observatory is a great stop and a place I wish we had more time to explore. Inside there are many scientific exhibits dedicated to the stars. Best part, it’s free.

Hollywood Stars
From Griffith Park it’s a short scenic drive down to Hollywood Boulevard. There you will find the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the TCL Chinese Theater, and about 100 out of work actors dressed (poorly) like your favorite movie heroes. We parked our Los Angeles ZipCar and took a closer look. Although ridiculously touristy, the Walk of Fame and Chinese Theater are cool to see. Where else can you comment on how small your favorite actors feet are?
Cruising the Sunset Strip
From bad super hero impersonations it was a quick hop over to Sunset Boulevard which runs parallel to Hollywood Boulevard. Our first stop was In-N-Out Burger. No trip to California is complete without a visit (or two in our case) to this popular west coast burger chain.

Full on “animal style” stuffed, our Los Angeles ZipCar tour continued down Sunset Boulevard past historic sites like the “riot Hyatt” and the Laugh Factory before stopping at the Whiskey A Go-Go. Known as the starting grounds for many famous acts such as Buffalo Springfield, The Doors, and Niel Diamond, this historic club is a must see for any music lover.
Across the street you from the Whiskey A Go-Go you will find the Viper Room which has been known for its celebrity clientele and the death of River Phoenix at its entrance in 1993.
The Hills of Beverly
Next up was Beverly Hills where we cruised through the neighborhood to get a glimpse of the good life. It was there I was cut off by Ron Howard Mercedes convertible. Love your movies Ron but learn to shoulder check. Seriously how can you miss this purple car?
We continued our Los Angeles ZipCar turned good life tour down Rodeo Drive which is known for its high-end shops and celebrity shoppers. We gawked at the fancy cars parked out front of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Prada before continuing on. We did not buy anything.
Santa Monica was our last stop on our Los Angeles ZipCar cruise. Along with what felt like half of southern California, we made our way to the Santa Monica pier before turning around. It was just too crowded and touristy, something I didn’t remember thinking the last time I visited. Perhaps because we were there during the week or in the off-season and not a weekend in the summer that made it more enjoyable then. Still, another one of those famous sites that is cool to see…once.
Zipping Around LA
Zipping around in a Los Angeles ZipCar is a great way to tick off the sights on the cheap – especially if you are tight on time. Los Angeles is very spread out so having wheels is ideal for getting around. Thankfully ZipCar offers a cheap and convenient alternative to renting a car.
