Is this the most underrated view in the world?

Patagonia… or what should perhaps more accurately be PataGOnia just became one of my favourite finds in the entire world. After travelling to 50 countries across 6 continents, it’s a pretty big statement to make – and I completely stand by it. Whether you have or haven’t heard of it, the Torres del Paine National Park (on the border of Chile and Argentina) should certainly be on any traveller’s list and beckons the question: is this the most underrated view in the world?

So, how do you get here?

The easiest and most economical way to arrive is by the following steps:

First Step: Fly into Santiago, the capital of Chile
Second Step: Fly from Santiago to Punta Arenas
Third Step: Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales (by land)
Fourth Step: Puerto Natales to Torres del Paine (by land)

The third and fourth step can be easily achieved travelling by buses that run frequently and daily. However I was staying at the Explora Lodge, which includes a complimentary round-trip transfer (5 hours drive) from the Punta Arenas airport to Torres del Paine direct.

Once there, you’re likely to have come for one reason: trekking…and lots of it. The most popular trek is the ‘W circuit’ which consists of three full day hikes to reach the Torres del Paine.

As I was staying at the Explora Lodge, my room rate included daily hikes with a certified guide, departing at 8:30am each morning and returning around 5:00pm at night to the cosy lodge. If you’re on a budget there are refuge camps strategically placed along the way.

Insider Tip: Go off Season!

Spring (September to November) is a great time of year to visit with the best weather conditions.

Summer (December to March) is high season.

Autumn (March to June) is a great time of year with lots of colours to enjoy.

Winter (June to August) is off season with many refuge camps closed and cold climates – though for many this is the perfect time to visit as the treks are virtually empty for you to enjoy on your own.
