I received a Liebster Award

Image
I received a Liebster award! Wooop! 🙂 It was such a nice surprise and I am truly grateful that Seeking the Spanish Sun was chosen to receive a 2017 award. My blog was nominated by Secret Moona, an awesome travel and lifestyle blog. The author is the lovely Mayi and she writes about all the cool and quirky places she visits. Including lots of food recommendations and insider tips. Thank you Secret Moona! What is a Liebster award?  The Liebster award is a virtual blogger recognition award given to bloggers by other bloggers. It’s an awesome way to show support to new bloggers and share positive encouragement around the blogging world. It started back in 2011 and the word “Liebster” is German for saying something is the dearest, nicest, sweetest, kindest, lovely, valued… you get the idea. It’s a really nice way to share some love on the internet. How does the Liebster award work?  The award is given to a blogger who has less then 200 readers and is the perfect way to give a pat o

Papillon Photos: Antigua, Guatemala

Image
I have to confess that I messed up. I had a different post planned for today but forgot to remove it from the computer I was working on. Well, that is fine because now I can talk about my favorite country in Central America. What is my favorite country in Central America? Guatemala, of course. And today is the turn of magnificent Antigua, the third capital of Guatemala (they say third is the charm, right?). The city is famous because of its spectacularly preserved colonial ruins. It is also prominent thanks to the intricate Lent ceremonies celebrated each year. Elaborate carpets made of sawdust and flowers embellish the processions’ paths. The city’s Baroque architecture has won it the honor to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List (Trivia: Which are the two other Guatemalan sites included in the World Heritage list?) Boy walking by the street Beautiful houses lining the street Unfortunately, I spent only one day at La Antigua. My dream is to go back, stay there a couple of

I love German Beer!

Image
I love German Beer! Last night we went on a beer tour and had a blast. Apart from drinking a lot of good German beer, we got an education as well. Germans love their beer. So much so that there is laws about what can be put in it. Makes you realize how bad North American beer is. We had a cool guy named John from Chicago on the tour. He loves Budweiser and got teased pretty good by our guide. Here are some pics from the blurry night. Our tour ended at the famous Haufbraus (spelling?) and it was amazing. The place was packed and it was a Monday night. We met a true bavarian man who owns a table there. He was decked out in the full leader hosen and hat. We got some good pics but they are on Jon’s camera. I will post later on. We ended the night at our hostel bar and crashed around 700. We had to be out by 10:00 so there was a lot of down time. Next stop, Prauge…or Berlin. Freedom is awesome. Shaun I loves me some German Beer.

San Miguel de Allende: An Artist Haven

Image
As I sit down to write this, I realize that San Miguel is hard to put into words, I’d rather just show you. I guess the first question to answer is: Why would I visit San Miguel de Allende? Short answer: cause it’s pretty. It’s a quiet city only 3 hours by bus from Mexico City where you can melt into a romantic landscape of art, greenery, and history. How to get to San Miguel de Allende Before Leaving America The Language, and What to Pack I recommend doing this as a side trip from Mexico City since it’s so close. Refer to this Mexico City blog post for more information on entering and leaving there. Getting to San Miguel de Allende Once you’re in the airport of Mexico City, head to the kiosk servicing buses to Queretaro. The directions to find the kiosks vary depending on where you’re arriving from, but there is a concierge that you can ask and most people within the airport can direct you to it. It’s on the second floor. The kiosks are white and there will be people sitting
